Judo Takedowns Technique

Posted on in judo

Tried to take down a BIG guy in MMA today and my shoot did NOTHING. Whats a suitable takedown/throw?

This guy is a big muscular heavyweight and he weights a ton.

I find a x2 leg or single leg work best on a guy of similar size but the only way I managed to get him down was with a judo esk hip throw where I went down with him but I landed on top of him.

What are the ideal takedowns or throws for someone whos alot bigger stronger and heavier than you are? What does BJJ teach for takedowns? He is so damn sturdy its hard to work any technique on him!

Im welterweight hes a big heavyweight
NICE! Thanks dreaming for both ideas!

This is the reason why there are weight classes.

You should ask this to your MMA/BJJ instructor.

To answer your question, the ones that they teach you in class.

Kimura Masahiko Judo

Who won the fight between Hélio Gracie and Masahiko Kimura (1955 )?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masahiko_Kimura

It says that Kimura won when he broke Hélio’s arm and his brother threw in the towel.

Yet, the newspaper says Hélio won. I don’t understand. Who won ?

And for that matter, how did the Gracies make BJJ so popular if Kimura who practices JUDO, is the one who won.

Kimura won but, the newspaper admired his fighting sporit so they said he won.

BJJ is so popular because it is an efficient style that will enable most practioners to win a fight in relaticely little training time. Whereas Judo although just as good at higher levels takes longer to learn as far in a fight go. In one year of BJJ you will destroy anyone off the street but, in one year of Judo many people off the street can block your throws by staying stiff.
