What is Shi Sei Kai Kan? And is it any good?
I’m a young woman and will be living on my own soon and would like to learn how to defend myself but i don’t know of the best technique to learn. A few people have suggested Shi Sei Kai Kan or Aikido but I don’t know much about them…
Help please! Make suggestions if you know of better ones
I have never heard of the style you mention. It does not appear in the internet search I did. both facts tell me that you might want to stay clear of it. It sounds suspiciously like something someone made up. Adam mentioned his grandfathers style. Not sure what his grandfather studied, but I think he is incorrect about the styles being the same. Many Japanese words sound similar. It is easy to assume that because something looks similar or sounds similar they are the same thing. Find a traditional martial arts school.
Stay away from any that:
1) Try to sign you up for a black belt contract.
2) Talk about leadership, black belt, or masters clubs.
3) Require you to sign any thing before trying a class.
4) have more than 2-5 black belts.
5) have small children wearing black belts.
6) promote more often than 3-4 time a year. Less is even better
7) Any place that allows students to become black belts in less than 3-5 years.
Also find out if the instructor is more interested in promoting students or in the students learning realistic skills.

What are the orgins of jujitsu?
I created a website for a Toronto based jujitsu training centre and I wanted to give the visitors a better understanding of Jujitsu but I don’t practise martial arts. Any good websites that help me with resources to explain to the audience better?

The History of Jujitsu evolved over 2500 years ago. Its roots is the combination of many teachings that either originated in Japan or were brought to Japan from neighboring Oriental countries. It has been believed that Jujitsu can be found in roots dating back to the legendary gods Kajima and Kadori, who used the art against the inhabitants of an eastern province as punishment for their criminal activities.
In the beginning nearly 2500 years ago reference was made to Jujitsu and its philosophies of which may have occurred during the Choon Chu era (772-481 BC) in China, a period when open-hand fighting techniques were practiced. When the wrestling sport of Chikura Kurabe appeared in Japan in 230 BC many of its fighting techniques and tactics were incorporated into Jujitsu training. From 230 BC onward, many different schools of Jujitsu were formed and there is indication that empty-hand techniques were practiced, along with weapons, as part of the samurai warrior’s training during the Heian period (ca. 784 AD).
