Kickboxing Types
I’m a 12 year old girl and I want to start Kickboxing?
Hi, I’m a 12 y/o girl living in the UK and I really want to start Kickboxing. I’ve just started secondary school and I want to be able the defend myself properly when a fight comes around. I basically want to start Kickboxing for self defense. Do you think I will be the only girl there at the group?
What types of schools to avoid?
Tips for starting Kickboxing?

I’ve posted this before, but I really want to do Kickboxing!
Kickboxing is not a style of Martial arts. Kickboxing is a sport. As a sport it’s focus is NOT going to be on practical self defense. If you want to learn a sport it is as good as any other combat sport, but if you want self defense then a more traditional Martial art would suite you better. That is not to say that a sport can’t be used for self defense, just it is not as well suited because that is not its main intent. It is like using a butter knife for a screw driver, it can work, just not as well a a real screw driver.

what is the best mma or muay thai gym in las vegas??
that isnt full of jerks and is good to beginners and that has girls there to.
It really depends on where you live. You don’t want to be driving across the entire city everyday just to go to train, so you may want to look into training somewhere that is nearby. Most stables allow a few [or at least one] free classes for potential fighters so they can see what the environment is like. Here are a few to look at:
Xtreme Couture : location – don’t know ;
Most expensive option. Never trained there, never plan to. May very well have many females training there. Word among the community is that they have rotating trainers a lot.
Cobra Kai : location – Sahara/I-15 ;
More economical option. Several females rolling all the time. Very experienced and belt-heavy instruction. Definitely a gym you will want to look at if you live/work nearby. World-class.
Excel Defense/Mica: locations- Craig/Jones, Charleston, Flamingo ;
More economical option. The Craig location has many females who roll everyday. Not sure of the others. Again, lots of experience. Check it out if you live/work nearby.
In terms of strictly MT, I wouldn’t know. I would actually train stand-up and grappling at the same stable if I were you. If I were anyone, unless you’re looking to compete very soon. Or you’re rich. There just is no reason to pay dues at two places at once.

Taekwondo Protection

what martial arts style is good for women to learn for self defense?
I have an order of protection against my ex boyfriend. He is not to come near home, job, or my parents home. The dumb sargent who served him the order of protection let him keep the apartment building key since he said it was fair and disregarding the order of the terms. I’m calling a lawyer and filing a complaint regarding the sargent.
Anyway, I bought some paper spray and have a fire arms card. In fact im in the process of purchasing a gun.
There’s a lot of martial arts classes in my area. I just wanted to know which style is best for self defense. I’m 5’1 115lbs and my ex is 5’8 220lbs. He has a green belt in taekwondo. Although he hasnt studied in about 20 years.
There is no best style of self defense, so you’re best bet is finding a good teacher. Don’t be concerned with belt ranks, especially in taekwondo. Belts don’t necessarily mean anything, he could be very good for his rank or he could have gone to a McDojo and be god awful. It’s about his training. Also, 20 years means he probably has forgotten most of it and won’t use it anyways.
The first female friendly arts that come to mind are Jujitsu (and every derivative there of), aikijujitsu and wing chun. However, your best course of action is to find what martial arts are around you and find the one you like the best. Then find a good teacher in that art and you’ll be set.
