Do i need any qualifications to teach martial arts in the UK?

Aside from actually knowing the martial art you want to teach do you need any formal qualifications like an NVQ in body combat or somthing? or is being ablack belt and having a big space good enough?

If you do need a qualification then what is/are they for:

Karete
Kungfu
Kick boxing
Judo
Capararo ( however you spell it)

A bit of a seprate question, do you need a qualification to teach dance?

THis is for a report so i could really do with some answers please!!! thank you all in advance.

As far as I know there are no minimum standards although if you plan to join an association or governing body they may expect coaching qualifications. Make sure your insurance is the best you can get, not only for yourself but for any new beginners who are having trial sessions and are therefore unlicenced. I don’t think it enough to just bar any kumite for unlicenced students, accidents happen even in the most innocent of activities.

I agree that a blanket statement of “3rd Dan”, or any dan for that matter isn’t helpful. In some organisations a dan grade is a very high achievement whereas in others they are ten-a-penny. Also, dan grades are an expression of technical expertise and not teaching experience or ability.

To run a club independently I’d expect a sound knowledge of basics and several years of advanced techniques. As well as two or three years assisting under supervision and occasionally unsupervised. I’d expect sound knowledge of biomechanics, first aid and preventing injuries. If you happen to have studied some of the language, culture and history of the countries of origin of your martial arts, even better. I’d also expect an instructor to explain whether he’s teaching sports, arts, self-defence or a combination. My greatest confidence is an instructor with a strong body, grey hair and a black belt so old it has gone white again.

Fortunately not everyone knows what they’re looking at and some people don’t care. So you can open your club and see how it evolves.

Kickboxing or Kyokushin?

i cant decide what to take what cause i want to take Kyokushin but what if im to old for karate(im 17 years old) thats why im thinking of kickboxing cause its kyokushin techniques with boxing and taekwondo i think it doesnt matter what age you are to learn karate but if thats true why is it targeted towards kids please help me also the kyokushin place mixes kyokushin with bjj and they teach face punching and i have a boxing and jeet kune do backround which should i take?

This is the kind of question that you itself must answer, you are the one who knows your capability especially on handling some physical activities.

Besides, style must not be the basis if what to choose, every style has an edge, advantage and disadvantage if we compare them, all you need is a legit instructor that can teach you an efficient skills and knowledge, he can give some important details, an accurate and efficient skills and knowledge.

Just try to visit some dojo near your place, observe and ask some important question, maybe through that effort, you can decide what’s better for you and not.
