aikido stress

Does Aikido relieve stress?
If so, what other advantages does it have?
It does. You must learn to relax in this discipline and not be rigid. Two types of training occur, that of the one delivering technique (or throwing, known as nage) and receiving (uke, or as the attacker). Uke in particular needs to be really flexible, buoyant, and relaxed to blend with the throwers energy and not receive damage.
On either side training is enjoyable and a very good stress reliever. Other advantages besides self defense are developing your core muscles where most of your power is generated.

aikido control

which martial art is better for me?
Hi,
I have to choose between Silat, Hapkido, Taiji, Aikido, and Judo. My purpose of learning martial arts are:
1. Physical fitness
2. Mental control
3. Least important – fighting back a toughie, if cornered.
I weigh about 50 Kg and have little active life. Certainly I can’t even think of Wushu and Kung Fu.
Which martial art should I choose among these?
You say you can’t consider kung fu but list silat and hapkido and judo as some of your options.
All 3 of these arts are as active and as involved as kung fu with judo being the most physical.
I think your best option is AIKIDO and even that can get very physical in the advanced stage which is rarely seen or demonstrated.

Lock On: Joint Locking Essentials Volume 1: Wrist Locks $34.95 “These techniques are, indeed, powerful tools and should be practiced carefully with a partner. They are intended for close, confrontational situations, which are usually the real-life situations where defense is needed. Nothing fancy here. Just straightforward techniques that work. I’ve used some of them before to stop more escalated fight situations, so I know they work. Alain Burrese presents t… |

Lock On: Joint Locking Essentials Volume 3: Shoulder Locks $34.95 “On its own, volume 3 could be a very useful resource in developing a deeper understanding of shoulder locks. The entire set (so far) looks like it will be fairly comprehensive and will serve as a great resource for learning how to use these locks as well as a great resource for picking up tips on how to teach them. I’d recommend this volume, as well as the whole set, for students and instructors … |
