New Technology Destroys Kung Fu!

Posted on in karate

[I:http://www.aikido-judo-karate.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/AlCase9.jpg]I saw the beginning of this over forty years ago while studying Kenpo Karate/Kung Fu, and it is still going on. In fact, it is worse than ever, and corrupts the majority of arts to a great degree. I will give you a couple of examples, and hopefully you can see to repairing the martial art that you study.

I was studying Ed Parker Kenpo Karate, and we began using pads. At first, the pads were only used to help fellows with knee problems, or that sort of thing, but the assortment of pads quickly grew. Soon pads were used on the shins for bruises, on the feet, on the shins, on the elbows and wrists, and so on.

Suddenly, people figured out that there was money in this padding thing. School owners realized that selling pads upped the revenue, and began pushing them to every student for every class. The selling of protective devices became a million dollar business that infected every school.

Now, you might be wondering why this is so bad. We’re just protecting little Johnny, right? But this is part of the school owner propaganda, and part of the selling gimmick.

When you wear pads you think your punches aren’t going to cause enough damage, and so you begin punching harder. Thus, the protective gear actually encourages less control and more violence. When you think about it, if you have to be aware and responsible so that you don’t get hurt, you start to control yourself and learn the true art.

The true martial art has to do with learning how to control yourself, you see. If you learn how to control your actions, then you start learning about yourself, and this makes you a better individual, on and off the matt. If you think you have to punch somebody harder and harder to make it work, then the people you fight are going to be more in danger.

Now, I saw this type of thought process infect the martial arts world back in the sixties. I also saw the introduction of fake weapons, so that people wouldn’t hurt themselves, which also decreases the need for learning control, and for the true appreciation of one’s own art. And, now people must wear mouthpieces, chest protectors, cups, and whatever else they can be scared or forced into buying.

The people who invented the martial arts, who passed them down through the generations, did not use such things, and I suspect they would have laughed at them. Bear in mind that I am not asking people to put themselves at risk, I am asking that people practice martial arts with no accoutrements, so that they can take responsibility for what they do, and not be cushioned against learning about themselves. Whether you study Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, traditional Karate, or whatever, you should follow Ed Parker’s advice…’I come to you with empty hands.

Tips For Choosing A Woman’s Boxing Glove

Posted on in Martial-Arts

Women have made a dramatic debut in the world of MMA. They are making a stand in the ring and getting noticed. And they aren’t just pretty girls with fit bodies…they are good.

It all began with women looking for a more intense work out. Aerobics and traditional exercises were just not cutting it and they wanted more. So women began boxing and kick boxing and then took up the full sport of MMA. Soon it became a passion to many which created the need for proper equipment so they could train efficiently, effectively and safely.

This brings us to the question asked by many. Is there really a difference between a man and a woman’s glove? Indeed, there is.

One main difference has to do with the skeletal variation.

A woman’s hand is built different from a man’s in that it is generally smaller and lighter. In general, a woman’s fingers are shorter as well. These are all factors that have been taken into consideration in the construction of special gloves for women.

Of course a woman can get by with wearing a man’s glove, but why? When there are gloves which offer more protection and comfort, a custom fit glove will only strengthen her ability to train as well as her performance in the ring.

The correct weight is key in choosing a glove, especially if you are a woman. If your glove is too heavy, it will weigh you down and you will find yourself fatigued. On the other hand, if your glove is too light, it is a danger to yourself and your sparring partner.

As a rule, the weight of a glove is determined by the weight of the woman who will be wearing it. In general, women will choose between a 10 or 12 ounce glove. Occasionally a woman may take a 14 ounce but that is rare.

A woman’s glove is made to uniquely contour a female’s bone structure in her hand. This helps to reduce the impact of striking which will aid in preventing soreness and injuries like tissue damage. Even minor problems like soreness can interfere with training and work out schedules so it is imperative to have the right fit in a glove.

Choose gloves that are of good quality. Quality gloves made by quality, well known manufacturers can save you a lot of time and trouble in the long run. If you think a deal is too good to be true, beware,

Some of the best women’s boxing gloves come from Everlast, Ringside, and Title. Fighter Warehouse has a great selection of quality pink gloves Century produces great solid gloves for those women who are truly serious about boxing.

Now that you are better educated in what to look for in purchasing a woman’s glove you can make your selection and get to business focusing your energies on your training and in the ring.

Adidas Clima Cool: Dri-Fit Boxing Gloves

Posted on in Martial-Arts

Can you believe dri-fit has come to boxing gloves? Well it has in the name of Clima-Cool gloves from Adidas. Does it work? Well boxers say it does keep the sweat wicking away. Why is that important? Well it keeps you working out longer and harder. Find out why right here.

Dri-fit is normally used in shirts and shorts. It is now making it’s way to sports equipment. Adidas is leading this path, and their gloves are good. They have integrated the dri-fit (wicking material) into the gloves to keep you dry.

Surprisingly, the Adidas Clima Cool gloves are leather. So you are going to get wicking and leather, which is a great match, as leather lasts much longer than vinyl.

Keeping cool while training is important. It allows you to train harder and longer. Not to mention it just feels better. Now you still will sweat. It just pulls the sweat from your body for evaporation.

Once you’ve tried dri-fit I do not think you’ll want to go back to regular gloves. I know when I moved from cotton to dri-fit I never went back. I think you’ll fee the same.

But what about a bag glove? Should you use a bag glove vs boxing gloves? I think so. It protects your expensive boxing gloves and offer a few extra things. You’ll find more padding and great wrist support. this is to protect you on the bag. Plus gear is just cool in my opinion.

This glove will not have much give. This is to help you reduce injury. The gloves will help you develop power and endurance as you work out on the bag. There a few top brands. This Adidas glove came to the market and is good priced for a good solid glove. I’d recommend a bag glove as opposed to just boxing gloves, and this glove fits the bill nicely.
