Taekwondo Belt System
How to teach martial arts?
I am a black belt in taekwondo. I am 18 years old. I love helping others and have been encouraged to contact my local homeless shelter about starting a martial arts program. This homeless shelter has many programs such as art and soccer. Anyway, if I get approval, then how would I go about teaching them? Obviously I wouldn’t have a belt system. I also wouldn’t have uniforms. I also want to put more emphasis on the mental aspect of martial arts(goal setting, perseverance, etc.). Any advice? And please no rude comments. I only mean well.
I assume you are a Chodan? At 18 very few people will take you seriously as an instructor. Also in most legitimate associations you are required to be minimum of 3rd degree or in some a second degree to teach. A first degree black doesn’t mean you have mastered anything other than the basics. That is when you start learning your art.
Now if you feel it is something that you must do, call it self defense courses. Show BASIC, simple techniques. WTF and ITF Taekwondo is not really known for their high usefulness as self defense. You will have to modify what you do significantly. You can not have homeless people doing flying side kicks or head kicks for that matter. I hate to say this, since my whole reply has been negative, but if you have to ask what to teach or how to go about it, you have no business trying. It is commendable that you want to help and maybe someday you will be ready, but that does not appear to be now. Study and grow a little more on your own then when you are ready you will know how to go about it.

Belts Taekwondo
Black belt in taekwondo kicks?
I know a black belt in taekwondo and she only knows like 5 very basic kicks. Do most blackbelts know more kicks? And will black belts learn those spinning kicks?
well, i have a 3rd degree black belt in TKD and i know many more kicks than taht and i would expect that she would too. we have basic kicks for each belt. they are:
no belt- front kick
white- sidekick
gold- round kick
orange- double round
green- reverse (spinning) side kick and double side
purple- hook kick
blue- reverse hook and round side and tornado
red- reverse cresent and hook round side
2nd brown- front round side hook and jumping side and flying side
1rst brown- double round double side
black- front double round hook round double side
we also have many kicks that are not basics like:
jumping front
axe
jumping revrse hook
jumping reverse side
jumping round
and so on.
again, i am suprised she only knows five kicks. she should really know more than that.
