Basic Karate Blocks
Practical Combat situation- Defense against a Right Hook?
To start off, I’m a boxing instructor at a gym, so I know the basic defense for either a right/left hook, which is basically sticking your glove to your ear to absorb the blow, or bobbing and weaving. However, I like to think in hypothetical situations concerning real life applications for fighting, so I have been thinking about how to defend against a Right Hook/Right Overhand. If you do what is taught in boxing and stick your hand next to your ear in real life with no gloves, you will break your hand.
So I came up with this combination againt a Right Hook, which is:
Karate Outward Block, Cross, Left Head Hook, Cross
Of course I wouldn’t raise my hand to the opposite ear, just raise it in that position to deflect the arm blow, like this:
