What’s the difference between American Kickboxing and Full-contact Karate?
My boyfriend says they’re the same thing, but I’m not sure.
American Kickboxing uses boxing and certain kicks from other martial arts. All kicks must be above the waist. Particpants typically wear anything that is in guidelines but never wear a full gi.
Full contact Karate permits contestants to grab and strike, sweep, knee, elbow and throw their opponent to the ground…but it depends on what system of full contact Karate you participate in.
There is also a big difference in the gear worn. Kickboxers wear foot and instep protectors along with typical boxing gloves ranging from 10 to 14 oz. In full contact Karate you wear very little..if any…type of protective gear.
They are very much related but not the same thing at all.
